Aromatherapy, as it is practised today, was researched in the 1920’s by a French chemist, René Gattefossé, as he experimented with essential oils and realised their great healing potential. His research has been widely used to develop aromatherapy further by another Frenchman, Dr Jean Valnet. He used oils to heal soldiers’ burns and wounds during the First World War and then went onto treat patients to heal their psychological and emotional needs with essential oils.
The complementary, holistic healing art of aromatherapy today lies with the combination of human touch and essential oils.
Aromatherapy involves massaging essential oils into the skin tissue where they promote relaxation, combat stress, and can relieve many physical and emotional conditions. Each essential oil has its own therapeutic, healing properties.
Essential oils are the aromatic oils extracted from a variety of sources including flowers, leaves, trees, rind, seeds and resin. They are highly concentrated, need to be diluted with a carrier oil, and therefore it is always advisable to consult a qualified aromatherapist before using essential oils.
As well as massage, essential oils can be used in your bath, as a compress or inhalation. Amanda can prepare suitable blends for clients to take home to continue their treatment at home, which will be charged separately, or will recommend appropriate oils and quantities for clients to use in the comfort of their own home.
Massage boosts the circulation of blood and lymph, aids the elimination of toxins and soothes away muscular aches and mental tension. Holistic Aromatherapy involves far more than simply giving a massage. Advice on lifestyle issues, diet and exercise can form part of a holistic aromatherapy treatment when appropriate, as well as the therapist becoming attuned to the client’s energies.
Knowledge of a client’s medical history is necessary to a successful aromatherapy treatment to ensure the most suitable oils are selected for their therapeutic properties as well as understanding where the client specifically needs to be worked on. It is important to drink plenty of water after a massage to help flush toxins out of your system.

Hot River Stone Massage
Stone massage involves massaging the body with softly rounded, water-heated basalt stones giving a wonderfully penetrating and comforting warm massage while stones are also placed on the body. The direct heat aids the relaxation of muscles allowing easier manipulation of a greater intensity than a regular massage.
Warm stones expand the blood vessels, pushing blood and unwanted waste materials through the body while having a sedative effect on the nervous system. It is important to drink plenty of water after a hot stone massage to aid the detox process by flushing out the toxins from your body.
The combination of hot river stones and aromatherapy massage with essential oils can have an amazing effect on your mind, body and spirit. An intense, relaxing treatment. Many clients and friends say that after they have had a hot stone massage they do not want to have a massage without them again!
Benefits of the Hot River Stone Massage
  • Softens and relaxes the muscles relieving pain and muscle spasms
  • Stimulates the circulatory system
  • Promotes self healing
  • Increased release of toxins
  • Induces deep relaxation which melts away stress
Knowledge of a client’s medical history is necessary to a successful hot stone aroma treatment, to ensure the most suitable oils are selected for their therapeutic properties, as well as understanding where the client needs to be worked on and the degree of heat to work with.

Hopi Ear Candling
Hopi ear candles originate from an ancient Native American Indian tribe. They have been used since ancient times in North and South America and throughout Asia as a natural therapy for a number of ear, nose and throat conditions.
The process is completely safe and involves a physical function of a light suction (chimney effect) that draws wax and other impurities out of the ear whilst the movement of the flame creates a vibration of air on the eardrum, generating a gentle massage-like effect.
The ear candle treatment, also known as Thermo-auricular Therapy, balances pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses inducing a pleasant warm sensation. The treatment is relaxing and has an overall calming effect for the recipient.
The Hopi Indians used candles in medicinal ceremonies and initiations to clear negative energies from the head and aura.
The Benefits of Hopi Ear Candling include treating a range of conditions including: -
  • excessive and compacted wax
  • glue ear in children
  • most ear complaints
  • sinusitis and rhinitis
  • headaches and migraines
  • catarrh and sore throats
The candles are made from certified organic linen, pure bee’s wax, honey extract and are combined with traditional herbs such as Sage, St John’s Wort, Chamomile and other essential oils such as Lavender. Amanda uses Biosun candles which are the only EU standard candles on the market.as well as understanding where the client needs to be worked on and the degree of heat to work with.
Both ears will be treated simultaneously after a short medical consultation and will take approximately 10 minutes of burning time each. The outer ears will be cleansed and the candles examined to determine if any further treatments maybe needed. The allocated time for this treatment is 30 minutes.
